When your family grows, so too must your home. This was the case for my clients’ home in Carrington. They required a much larger living area at the rear of their home to accommodate their growing family. This included a kitchen overlooking a large extended living area and covered entertaining deck. A laundry was also achieved from the extension along with a completely renovated bathroom, separate toilet and refurbished front verandah.
The site was challenging as it fronted a narrow street and offered no rear or side access for vehicles or heavy machinery. All footings were dug by hand, concrete was barrowed in from the street and all building materials were carried in to the rear of the property manually.
You can see from the photos the unique recycled timber benchtop of the country style kitchen sits beautifully against the kauri pine floor. The large windows at the rear of the extended living area were also re-used from the existing house which, when painted white, were brought to life to blend seamlessly into the decor of the new living area.
